TLS signed “W. J. Bryan,” one page, 8.25 x 10.75, personal letterhead, August 18, 1899. Letter to W. H. Berry, in part: “I do not expect to speak in the East in the near future. I may come there next winter. If so, may possibly stop at Chester. I remember you very well, and thank you for the clippings. You have been very diligent in the defense of bimetallism, and heaven knows you are needed in the East, for the majority of the gold men seem to be absolutely ignorant of the first principles of finance.” Bryan then adds a lengthy postscript, in full: “It is important I think to remind the gold man of the fact that the gold standard has not completed its work. In fact, no limit can be fixed to the evils of the gold standard, and no time can be named when its injustice will cease.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds (two passing through small portions of the signature), and slight mirroring of text.
