Philosopher and psychologist (1842–1910) and brother of novelist Henry James. William James taught philosophy at Harvard and became known as one of the founders of pragmatism. His major works include The Principles of Psychology, The Varieties of Religious Experience, and The Meaning of Truth. ALS signed “Wm. James,” on the correspondence side of a 5.5 x 3.5 one-cent postcard, May 19, 1895. Letter to an associate. In full: “Will the description of your course in the Zoology pamphlet be the same next year as it has been? If so I will have it copied in ours. If not, could you kindly let me have the new description?” Mild toning to correspondence side and pencil notations to reverse, otherwise fine condition.
