President William Howard Taft military document signed his first year in office, dated 12 August 1909. Here, Taft appoints a Lucien B. Ernest to First Lieutenant in the second regiment of infantry in the National Guard. Signed clearly ''Wm. H. Taft''. Bright blue official seal intact. Document measures 14.5'' x 18.5''. Light dampstaining and a .5'' tear to top edge. Very good condition.
