<B>William Henry Vanderbilt Autograph Letter Signed</B></I> "<I>Wm H Vanderbilt.</B></I> Two pages, 8" x 10", On New York and Harlem Railroad stationary, New York, May 29, 1866. Vanderbilt advises council to offer settlement in pending litigation against the railroad. "<I>it seems to me from somewhat careful examination of evidence in this case... You know I hate litigation, but you also know I will resist extortion. If the parties are willing to split the difference, I will pay it...</B></I>" The Vanderbilts in the 1860s bought up many of the smaller railroads in the greater Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio region.
