Painter, photographer, and explorer famous for his images of the American West (1843–1942). TLS signed “W. H. Jackson,” one page, 6.25 x 8.5, June 15, 1940. Letter to Major J. Allan Dunn. In part: “I want to congratulate you on the fine way in which you co-operated with the Ford Motor Company in putting over one of the most enjoyable entertainments the Explorers have had for many a day…I have also expressed my appreciation directly to the managers of the Ford Exhibit.” In fine condition. In 1897, Jackson sold his entire stock of negatives to William A. Livingstone’s Detroit Publishing Company; in 1936, Henry Ford sponsored his son’s purchase of these 40,000 Jackson negatives for the museum they were establishing at Greenfield Village.
