Distinguished major general in the Continental Army (1737–1814) who organized and trained the undisciplined forces at Cambridge before the Battle of Bunker Hill. Revolutionary War–dated manuscript DS, signed “W. Heath M.G.,” one page, 7.5 x 12, July 29, 1778. Pay order issued to "Ebenezer Hancock, Esq'r, Deputy Pay Master General to the Forces of the United States of America," in part: "Pay Lieut. John Blunt who did belong to Colo. Hitchcock's Reg't in 1776 One Hundred and forty four Dollars in full of his pay from Jan'y 1 to June 10, 1778, the time he arrived home from Captivity." Signed at the conclusion by Major General Heath, and countersigned by Seth Loring and John Blunt; also bears several endorsements on the reverse. In fine condition, with a light stain to the left edge. Blunt was serving in Daniel Hitchcock's 1st Rhode Island Regiment when he was wounded and captured by the British at the Battle of Long Island.
