Scarce ALS as president signed “Wm H. Taft,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, White House letterhead, August 19, 1911. Letter to the wife of a foreign diplomat. In part, “I was very glad to find the opportunity of appointing Larz. I have no doubt he will reflect credit on the country and the administration responsible for his selection.” In fine condition, with mounting remnants to reverse of both pages and some mild toning to second page. Larz Anderson was appointed Minister to Belgium in 1911, serving from October of 1911 until September of 1912, when he was appointed Ambassador to Japan. He held this post for only ten weeks, resigning when Woodrow Wilson assumed office.
