William H. Taft as President Typed Letter Signed, "W H Taft", one page on White House letterhead, 7" x 9", Washington, D.C., April 20, 1912, to Franklin MacVeagh, Secretary of the Treasury. It reads, "I have your letter of August 17th. What I want to do is to take Adams out of office and send him over to Hilles. Then I want to put in Adams' place a colored man from Arkansas to whom I have promised the position. Adams has been so long in his present place that if you could find another position anywhere in the Treasury for which his present duties have fitted him, I could lift the Civil Service rules and put him in. I wish you could give your attention to this problem and help me out." Intriguing content with bold signature.
