Partly-printed vellum DS as president, signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 15.25 x 19.5, June 10, 1911. President Taft appoints George L. Morrison as "First Lieutenant of Cavalry in the service of the United State." Neatly signed at the conclusion by President Taft and countersigned by Acting Secretary of War Robert Shaw Oliver. In fine condition. Accompanied by four other documents from Morrison's military career: a West Point certificate making Morrison a cadet on June 13, 1899, signed by Secretary of War Russell A. Alger (framed); a West Point graduation certificate from 1903 (framed); a diploma for the Mounted Service School issued to Morrison on July 22, 1908, signed by John B. Kerr and others; and a commission making him a "Captain on the Retired List" on May 15, 1920, signed by Assistant Secretary of War Benedict Cromwell.
