Partly-printed DS as president, signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 14 x 18.5, March 28, 1912. President Taft appoints Morris D. Gilmore as "an Ensign in the Navy." Signed at the conclusion by President Taft and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy George Meyer. The blue Navy Department seal affixed at the bottom remains intact. Matted and framed to an overall size of 18 x 24. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light foxing, some light staining to the bottom blank area, and the signature a couple of shades light. A graduate of the US Naval Academy's class of 1911, Gilmore would receive the Navy Cross for 'distinguished service as a Commanding Officer of submarines engaged in patrolling the United States Atlantic Coast, during World War I.'
