12" x 14" original artwork owned by William Forrest Martin. Unusual, unique piece of water color, pen and ink comic style artwork from the William Forrest Martin Collection. Date is unknown, but the autograph resembles Martin's signature on other pieces. There is some specualtion that this piece was created by Martin's father, Jasper F. Martin, prior to the hydrogen bomb and was passed down to Jasper's only son, William, who was born in 1942. The date referenced on the piece in the comic story is 1943 and foreshadows the atomic bomb. Oddly, many conspiracies theories still circulate today related to the recruition and relocation of some of Hitler's surviving German scientists under secret U.S. military operations (Project Paperclip), to continue studies, experimentation and inventions related to human psychology, chemical warfare and other nefarious subjects. If this piece was, in fact, created by Martin's father prior to the hydrogen bomb, the foreshadowing of both the official version of history, as well as the unofficial "hidden" or conspiratorial theories of history is worth mentioning. More research into the life of Jasper F. Martin is tempting. Either way this one-of-a-kind piece is another incredible glimpse into the complex psyche, fascinating imagination, and colorful life experiences of the multidimensional, masterful Artist the art world is just recently discovering, William Forrest Martin. This piece has not been offered for public sale ever before.
