William Faulkner Requiem For a Nun 1st Edition [I] Requiem For A Nun.
Requiem For A Nun. By William Faulkner (New York: Random House, 1950 & 1951) 1st Edition, 286 pages, Original Black and Green Cloth, 8vo (5.5" x 8.25"), Original DJ. In form a departure from his traditional novels, Faulkner creates this book in form of a three - act play. Each act begins with a section of prose, which, have little to do with the plot of the play, but rather provides history of where the setting is. Requiem, a sequel to the novel Sanctuary, is centered on the trial of a "guilty" Negro woman who had once been a victim to Temple Drake's debauchery. After much coercing, Temple confesses to not providing the correct evidence, so she travels to the Governor to tell the awful truth. The play itself is remarkable in its portrayal of the importance of truth.

Foxing around edges of pages. Traces of tape on exterior of book cover.
