Fargo, gives a rare and fascinating glimpse into the personal fortune amassed by an enterprising 19th century American tycoon. William George Fargo (1818 - 1881), President of American Express Co. after 1866, embodied the classic rags-to-riches tales that were so inspiring to would-be magnates during the Gilded Age. Fargo's will leaves household luxuries such as “<I>pictures, bronzes, statuary</B></I>” to his wife Anna, while more practical bequests in the forms of cash and real estate are divided among his father, wife, sisters, children and grand-children.
