Admiral (1882–1959) who commanded the Third Fleet in the Pacific Theater during World War II. ALS signed “W. F. Halsey, Jr.,” one page both sides, 5.25 x 6.5, April 19, 1911. As a lieutenant serving onboard the USS Franklin, Halsey explains the destruction of a bond. In part: “In reply to your letter stating that you had mailed to me a bond for $100.00 on the new club, which…should have been mailed to my father Capt. W. F. Halsey, U.S.N. (Retired). I beg to state that thinking this bond an advertisement & not knowing its value, I destroyed it & threw it in a waste paper basket.” In very good condition, with blocks of irregular toning and the signature a shade light.
