Extraordinary matte-finish 13.25 x 16.25 photo of the legendary Wild West showman by the Gessford Studio of New York, signed and inscribed in bold fountain pen, “To—F. W. Kavanaugh, from his friend, W. F. Cody, ‘Buffalo Bill.’” The lower right corner of the mount is signed in pencil by the photography studio. Impressively matted and framed to an overall size of 25.25 x 29. In fine condition, with light stains along the top and bottom edge of the mount, in no way detracting from the magnificence of the image. A magnificent oversized portrait befitting the stature of the great Buffalo Bill—undoubtedly the largest example we have offered.

Fred Kavanaugh (1871-1940) served as a New York state senator from 1921 to 1924. Additionally, he also served as Saratoga County sheriff, Supervisor of the Town of Waterford, president of First National Bank of Mechanicville, NY, he chaired the Saratoga County Republican Committee, and he was active in fraternal organizations. His connection to Buffalo Bill is linked to the Irma Hotel in Cody, Wyoming, that he co-owned with Buffalo Bill. The hotel was named after Buffalo Bill's daughter.
