Physician, politician, and statesman (1753–1825) who served as a military surgeon at Bunker Hill and as secretary of war under James Madison at the beginning of the War of 1812. LS as secretary of war, signed “W. Eustis,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, January 8, 1811. Letter to George Simpson, cashier of the Bank of the United States. In full: "Will you be pleased to transmit me a Statement of dividends which had accrued on the shares of Stock of the Bank of the United States, held in trust by the President of the United States, for the Seneca Nation of Indians, from 17th July 1809, and also the balance remaining in the Bank belonging to said Indians?" In very good to fine condition, with light toning along the top and left edges, and paper loss to the lower left corner.
