ALS signed W. C. Bryant, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7.25, blindstamped monogram letterhead, July 15, 1871. Handwritten letter to publisher J. R. Osgood, concerning his translation of The Odyssey of Homer. In part: "As I have finished another book of the Odyssey I forward it today. But do not let your printers tread on my heelsIn a day or two I will send a short preface of the first volume of the Odyssey. You are right in saying that no new one is wanted for the Iliads. But there is a correction which should be made in the first volume, both in the larger and smaller edition. It is in line 660 of the IXth book. The line as it stands reads thus: 'To feast the other gods, to her.' Read: 'To feast the other gods, to her alone.' It was written so at first and I do not know how it came to be shortened." In fine condition.
