Biography Born in 1940 and raised in the Chicago area, Chambers first began hisstudies at the University of Illinois He planned on majoring inindustrial design, but after realizing the field required moreengineering than he had initially thought. and desiring to be anartist more than an engineer, he transferred to Northeastern IllinoisUniversity earning a Bachelors of Arts Degree. From there he began hisstudies and graduated from at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. After graduation from the American Academy , he apprenticed forseveral years at Magee Inc. a top illustration studio. He continuedhis career as an illustrator working at another Jack O'Grady studiosin Chicago. While working in illustration he became more engrossed inportrait painting. By 1979, he decided to strike out on his own as a portrait painter. Many peopletook notice of his painting, and before long, he was approached by a consultant for the Knowles ChinaCompany. Chambers had never heard of collector plates at that time, but hequickly became a design star, appearingon the cover of Plate World magazine and making appearances across thecountry. He is a Master Signature Member in a group of only 25 artists. Although well known for his successes in the realm of collectorplates, Chambers is best known for his expertise as a portrait artist. His large commissioned works arepriced from $25,000 to $35,000.
