Letter to John Bulls. In part: “Permit an old friend to intercede…and to request that you will devout [sic] a leisure moment in giving him the news, political, religious, foreign & domestic—particularly what relates to the navy past, present, & future…Pray how many of the prizes which our friend Decatur sent into New York have been condemned and to what amount, I wish it was a million…I wish you had the art of Divination, to tell me wither I shall remain all winter in this frozen Climate, where the body does not only freeze but the soul chills—but should the Embargo be taken off I have no doubt it will warm their hearts in this part of our Country…How do they carry on at Washington? Are there any prospects of our ships being sent to sea before the officers forget the stem from the stern.” Intersecting folds, light scattered foxing, and evenly trimmed edges, otherwise fine condition.
