United States Army officer (1822–1898), lawyer, legislator, and Confederate general in the American Civil War. ALS signed “Wm. B. Taliaferro,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.5 x 8.25, Dunham Massie letterhead, March 29, 1888. Letter to General Marcus Joseph Wright, in part: "I have just rec'd your letter of the 26th inst. I very much regretted that I would not see in Washington and of course much the more because your illness prevented. I trust you may very soon be entirely convalescent. You write that you attempted a visit to this section…about the 10th Apl to Old Point you must if you can postpone it. I will not be at home except for very brief intervals from this time until the 1st June. I am connected with two Colleges & engaged in the practice of law and the two keep me very much from home especially in Spring & Fall." He continues by affirming that a summer visit would be far more ideal and notes that the "Century Co. only published a fragment" of one of his articles. Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet. In fine condition.
