American general (1726–1783) who served during the Revolutionary War and claimed the disputed title of Earl of Stirling. ALS signed “Stirling, mg,” one page, 6.5 x 8.5, November 1, 1781. Letter to Quartermaster Nicholas Quakenbush. In full: “I must desire you will immediately send off to this place two good large grind stones. We cannot do without them therefore if they are in Albany they must be sent. Remember to send the writing paper & c by this Express if it is not already sent. The additional tools wrote for Yesterday are also much wanted.” Intersecting folds, two passing through signature, tape and remnants to edges, and scattered toning, otherwise very good condition.
