This detailed oil painting on canvas bears the title ‘Jambo’ and was made by the South African artist Willem Sternberg de Beer. Represented is a western lowland gorilla, which has its habitat in the rainforests and wetlands of Africa. The strong gorilla is seated in the tall grass. The green, fresh color of the environment surrounds him and emphasizes his appearance as well. Willem Sternberg de Beer (born 1941)

Willem Sternberg de Beer was born 1941 in Transvaal and studied at the University of Pretoria, before dedicating himself exclusively to painting. In 1985 he moved to the United Kingdom. Works by Willem Sternberg de Beer are found today in the collection of the British Royal Family. Numerous solo exhibitions, such as in the New York Sportsman's Edge Gallery, present his works. The member of the prestigious Society of Animal Artists is mostly known for his extremely vibrant animal paintings. His most famous work ‘Snow Leopard in the Himalayas’ was sold 2007 at Christie’s New York for over 7.000 euros. (lvp)
