Watercolor on paper. Featuring abstract composition. Signed -Ronald 89- on bottom right. Inscribed with "William Ronald (1926-1998) Pll. RCA" on verso. Attributed to Willam Ronald Smith. William Ronald Smith (1926-1998, Canadian) was best known as the founder of the influential Canadian abstract group Painters Eleven. Ronald was a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and later moved to the United States. He shared a studio with Frank Stella and joined Manhattan's Kootz Gallery. Although he enjoyed a number of years of success, he eventually returned to Toronto and was made a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. His final piece is titled "Heart Attack", as he suffered a heart attack as he painted it, days before he died.
