Popular American entertainer who cultivated an image as a wisecracking cowboy and earned worldwide renown for his mordant wit and skill at rope tricks. After a successful vaudeville career, Rogers made an easy transition to films and became one of the top box-office draws of the late 1920s and early 1930s. His career came to an untimely end when he died in a 1935 plane crash in Alaska along with Wiley Post. Scarce oversized vintage matte-finish 12.5 x 15 full-length photo of Rogers smiling sheepishly in full cowboy regalia, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Percy, in remembrance of The Roof Hounds ‘What notables have we with us tonight’ Bill Zugg R[ogers].” Missing lower right corner tip resulting in only the first letter of “Rogers” remaining, scattered creases, a tear to right side affecting background, scattered light silvering, chip to top edge, and lightly trimmed edges, otherwise very good condition. The flaws affect mostly the background and end of signature, with Rogers’ image itself largely unaffected. One of the best images of the renowned entertainer you will find, and the first such pose of its size that we have seen.
