<B> Will Rogers, John Ringling, and assorted Signatures on Large Card. </B></I> One page, 8.5" x 11.8", card stock sheet, np, nd. This is either a birthday card or a sign in sheet for a party, for Colonel W. Scott. It is hard to say what the function was; all we see is a small inscription reading, <I> "For Col. W. Scott, with best wishes from-" </B></I> The card is signed by 31 individuals from all walks of life. Most notable are: Will Rogers, famous humorist. <r John Ringling, the most successful of the Ringling Brothers, (he was responsible for combining Barnum and Bailey's Circus with Ringling Brothers Circus to create a huge monopoly on the circus industry). <r Kenesaw Mountain Landis. Landis was baseball's first commissioner, and helped to restore some respect to the league after the Black Sox scandal of 1919. <r George M. Cohan, is probably the most honored American entertainer; among many other things, he was called the father of the musical comedy. <r William H. Hays was the man responsible for the Hays Production Code which instituted early censorship in Hollywood. <r Dewolf Hopper, best known for his recitations of <I> Casey at the Bat. </B></I> Hopper would make a living reciting this poem. A wonderful group of characters on one sheet! <r The document is in very fine condition; all signatures appear in pencil and are very clear and free of smudges. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
