The lot features a rare Faro Playing Card Press made by Will & Finck Co. San Francisco, California. The rare press holds 6 decks of playing cards and the brass screw is well marked, “Will & Finck Co S.F. CAL.” . Early playing cards were printed on thick paper or made of glued-together layers and had a tendency to warp with humidity. Will & Finck created the first card presses which would straighten decks or to keep them from becoming warped. Most W&F card presses are in a 12 deck design, very scarcely seen in a 6 deck design. The piece was created circa 1870-1880. Shows the box, lid, and brass marked screw. Frederick Adolph Will (1837-1912) and Julius Finck (1831-1914). Measures 4”w x 8.5”l x 4.5”t.
