Will & Finck Bowie knife. 12 1/8” overall with 7 1/8” clip point blade, with sharpened false edge. The ricasso is marked with the Will & Finck trade mark, double circle above the words “Will & Finck”, “F. S. CAL”. Heavy blade stock is 3/16” thick. Hilt a swell center aged walrus ivory, hand checkered with three brass pins. Crossguard and ferrule are cast brass. Tang tapers significantly from the ricasso to the pommel. The checkering to the walrus ivory was probably done by the owner. The blade has excessive sharpening and wear from period use with spots of light to significant aging. A ”3” is stamped on the bottom of the tang, which represents a size or pattern number. Desirable untouched patina. This is a rare hunting knife pattern by Will & Finck. Period hand-made sheath is of American Indian styling with a laced deerskin styling. Hugh Hayes Collection. Est: $6,000 - $12,000
