German car designer and industrialist (1846-1929). TLS in German, signed “W. Maybach,” one page, 8.75 x 11.25, Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft letterhead, June 3, 1898. Letter to M. Frank in Breitenheim: In part (translated): “Your letter of June 1 received and we thank you for your communication. Unfortunately, we cannot engage in the actual operation of motor vehicles, as we concern ourselves only with the construction of motor vehicles. The operation of such vehicles we must leave to the individual persons, companies, or authorities, as to supervise such companies would afford us no room to pursue our actual business. We would be very happy if you yourself could decide to run such a concern, all the more so as you are evidently convinced that such a business would be profitable.” Signed at the bottom by Maybach, and countersigned by Gustav Vischer, who had just joined the board of Daimler Motors. In fine condition, with a mild shade of toning, intersecting folds, and a couple light corner creases.
