British physician (1865-1940) known for his medical missionary work in Newfoundland and Labrador. Two items: Signed book: Adrift on an Ice Pan. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1909. Hardcover with dustjacket, 4.75 x 7.5, 69 pages. Signed on the first free end page in fountain pen, “Greetings from Labrador-Wilfred T. Grenfell,” adding a nice landscape sketch with a wolf howling at the moon; and a sketch of a ship in the frigid sea on a 6 x 9.25 page, signed and inscribed, “Greetings from Labrador—by Wilfred T. Grenfell to Rex Auchincloss—1933.” The book presents in fine condition, with some light wear and notations to dustjacket and mild page toning; the sketch, on a leaf removed from the book Forty Years for Labrador, rates good with heavy singe marks and chipping, affecting portions of the sketch. Accompanied by an unsigned copy of his autobiography, A Labrador Doctor.
