Wild West Show style travel bag made for Buffalo Bill Cody with steer hide accents to Indian tanned and painted parfleche. The bag measures 12” in heights by 26” width and remains in very good condition with somefolding and normal aging, circa about 1890-1910. The front of the bag is pencil inscribed “Buffalo Bill Wild West Group, Co____ (illegible)”. An original newspaper article from Billings Gazette dated November28th 1965 pictures this exact bag and recants; An Indian-made trunk, thong-laced and painted, rests on a davenport in the Earl Grainger living room. Once, the Grainger say, the trunk was used by Col. W.F. (Buffalo Bill) Cody when he took his Wild West show on tour. The Grainger’s operated the new Yellowstone Hotel in Laurel, MT and started collecting shortly after WW2 and acquired many artifacts directly from people who knewCody. Buffalo Bill also stayed at the Old Yellow Stone Hotel which is not a long way from Cody where he was also in the hotel business.
