Featured in this lot if the First Edition of "Wild Flowers of the United States, Northeastern States, Volume I", by Harold William Rickett, 1966, McGraw Book Company publisher. The six volume collection is a monumental botanical work, written in non-technical language for the amateur, with each species illustrated in colour photographs. Sponsored by the New York Botanical Garden, the project was edited by Dr. William C. Steere, director of the NYBG, and written by Dr. Harold Rickett, Senior Botanist. Dr. Harold William Rickett (1896-1989) was also a prolific author of botanical books and articles, his most outstanding work the six-volume Wild Flowers of the United States. Not only did Rickett write the text in non-technical language for the layman, he scanned thousands of colour slides of the plants, and travelled for over three years taking pictures and ensuring that each species was correctly illustrated. The two green buckram bound gold gilt illustrated hardcovers are in very nice condition, slight scuffing exhibited on edges. Intact pages are clean. Volume I measures 9.75"W x 13"L x 1.25"D, volume II is 9.75"W x 13"L x 1.5"D. Total weight 10lb, 14oz.
