Measures 19 x 14 3/4." Incorporated in New York. Reads, ". . .William S. Pierson of Windsor, Connecticut, and Bethuel Phelps, of the city of New York, trustees of bearer, One Thousand Dollars. . . ." Signed by Thomas B. Phelps as secretary and (illegible) president. Green embossed company seal. Three vignettes, one of a vulture, the other of a single miner with a gun, shovel and pick in his hands, and the last is of working miners near a mining company. Orange border and under print. Black print on crème paper. All six coupons are attached and signed by Phelps. Endorsed on the reverse with a red five cent revenue stamp. Cancelled (on the stamp), along with eight other "cut-out" cancellations. This mine was discovered in 1863 by Henry Wickenburg, where it quickly became the largest gold producing mine in Arizona. In 1942 the mine closed due to theft, financial scandals and lack of water supplies. No 73. Fair conditions, with dark yellowing and minor stains and tears.
