Russell, Charlie Russell, and "Kid" Russell, was an artist of the Old American West. Russell created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes set in the Western United States and in Alberta, Canada, in addition to bronze sculptures. Known as 'the cowboy artist', Russell was also a storyteller and author. The print displays a hunter with his two horses on the side of a mountain, after he shot a sheep, as he is being confronted by a grizzly bear. The hunter is shown in a red plaid jacket and is holding a lever action rifle. He is shown holding on to the reigns of his riding horse with the pack horse trying to move up the mountain. The bear is depicted standing on its hind legs as is stares at the hunter with the fallen big horn sheep between the two. The print is signed in the bottom left hand corner reading "Russell 1914" with the "C.M." cut off by the border. The print is set into a wooden frame with a grey border around the art. The piece shows good condition overall with some light wear on the frame. The frame measures 21 1/4" wide by 17 1/8" tall with the print measuring 15 3/4" wide by 11 3/8" tall.
