Whitney contract for Massachusetts “Sea Fencible” musket showing MS stamp at breech and unusual style brass butt plate in .69 caliber smoothbore with 42” barrel. The lock shows crossed arrows and E. Whitney alongwith U.S. at center portion and New Haven 1834 at rear and the tang is dated 1833. There is a “P” proof on the left of the breech. The conversion is a nipple screwed directly into the barrel with brass plug inflintlock lock plate. There is a rack number 94 stamped on the butt plate. The metal surfaces show a gray to brown patina with scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion. The metal surfaces are generallygood. The markings are good. The stock is good and would have been rated at very good other then lost around the butt plate and a crack near the top of the butt plate. The original to the period ramrod is included and the lock works well.
