Whitney Wolverine Semi-Automatic Pistol, #32401, .22 LR cal., 4-1/2'' barrel, nickel finish, brown checkered plastic grips, with bright trigger and two correct factory magazines, one all nickel plated, the other a factory blue mag with nickel base. Pistol tips the scales at only 1.3 lbs. Designed by Robert Hillberg, who learned about aluminum casting in WWII while working for Republic Aviation. With only 13,371 pistols mfg'd during its short period of production (1956-1958), and with only approx. 500 nickel-plated examples made according to factory records, these pistols were quite expensive when new, with the blue ones selling for $39.95 and the nickel for $44.95. The victim of poor marketing and early financial problems, and the fact that both Ruger and Colt undercut their prices by at least $2.00, doomed the company to an early demise. Condition is excellent showing light wear from handling. Action is crisp, bore is excellent. Est.: $500-$750.
