Incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1868. Cert. #330, issued to Jacob Rheem in 1869 for 40 shares. Signed by Jos. H. Black, President, and by Stephen Miller, Secretary. Vignette at center of a cabin in a clearing with horses, a pack mule team and miners working near the cabin and a headframe. Another vignette at left of two horses flanking a stylized shield. Light mauve border and printing, with an embossed seal. Applied 25 ct. Revenue stamp at left. Uncancelled. Printer: John Alexander, Phila. 7.5 x 11.” The White Pine District mines gave rise to a number of early towns that thrived between 1868-1875, the most famous of which was Hamilton. They were developed because of large-scale silver discoveries in 1868 and between 1868-1869 some 10,000 people flocked to the district in one of shortest silver stampedes on record. Hamilton was incorporated in 1869 and became the first county seat of White Pine County. By 1875 it was all over, Hamilton was disincorporated and the county seat was moved to Ely [Ref: www.forttours.com/pages/hmnvse.asp].
