White Pine County: Egleston & Brown
Egleston and Brown Mining Co. Incorporated March 5, 1869. No. 222 issued April 6, 1869 to E Hestres for 26 shares. Egleton could be related to R.H. Egleton, who in Davis retells the story of the Dry Creek Fight. Here, being a resident of Eureka, he tells the story of roughly 15 or 20 Indians who became dissatisfied with a tribal squaw living with the station keeper, Si McCanless. The Indians later opened fire through the station’s timber walls that had not yet been mudded over. McCanless and another man died and the rest made it 30 miles away to Dry Creek where they met Egleston. Egleston promised to find the bodies of the two dead men and have them buried appropriately. He succeeded. [REF: Davis, History of Nevada, 1913, 180-181].
