These petalware plates are Depression Era and were manufactured by Macbeth-Evans Glass Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the 1930s.<p>

Petalware is the name for the "petalled" rimmed dinnerware and cups and saucers made from Monax, Macbeth-Evans' opaque glassware first invented for lighting fixtures in the early 1900s. It was translucent and fragile looking, yet durable. Petalware was produced over the longest period of any Macbeth-Evans' original patterns.<p>

These plates are in a black and peach flower design, perhaps representing the period of Petalware production under Corning. There are three (3) 7-inch salad plates and four (4) 9-inch lunch plates, all of which are in excellent condition. The back view of one of the plates shows the lovely opaque quality of the glass!<p>

I offer these as a set.<p>

These will make a wonderful addition to a Depression glass collection!<p>

(For a bit of history: Macbeth-Evans was formed in 1899 from the joining of two major lamp chimney makers: the Thomas Evans Lamp Company, founded in 1869, and the George A. Macbeth Lamp Company, founded in 1872. Macbeth-Evans acquired the American Lamp Chimney Company and continued to expand until, by 1900, it had plants in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Ohio, becoming America's largest manufacturer of lamp chimneys.<p>

The company continued to make kerosene lamp chimneys of various sizes and shapes and types. It also produced glass globes and shades with etching or handpainted designs in the 1880s. ...
