Nephew of Sitting Bull (1849–1947) who participated in the Battle of the Little Bighorn and is said to have been the warrior that killed George A. Custer. Rare ALS, one page both sides, 7.75 x 12.5, August 8, 1896. Letter to Dan Frost, proprietor of Indian goods company Stephen A. Frost and Son. In part: “I am going to write to this day that I want some thing form you so I tell you I know you are a good and know you are good for everybody thats reason I didnt afraid to write to you in the year 1894 that I was with the show in Buffalo Bill that time…I know that we Indians are want every thing that you had now I want is first if you can sent it to me please let me know soon as you get this letter what I want I like to know which way, or how you tell me how I going sent the money to you and you get all right straight and tell me that you can sent what I want all right that is can not mistake that is you get the money all right and I get the things all right if you can sent me the same kind of this iron hearts tell me and this small bones what we call in Indian and them fur’s that we wear indians you all know them and buck skin, now if you can sent the things to me write as soon as you can please I am your Indian friend I shake hand with you with this letter.” He writes his address and list of requests below, “My address: White Bull, Pine Ridge Agency, Porcupine, So. Dak. 1st Iron hearts, 2nd small bones, 3rd furs that wear’s, 4th buckskin.” In good to very good condition, with overall wrinkling and soiling, and tears, splitting, and separations along folds (two small old tape repairs). An extremely scarce letter boasting excellent content.
