White Beta Cloth Thermal Cover Garment originally manufactured by International Latex for Hamilton S
White Beta Cloth Thermal Cover Garment originally manufactured by International Latex for Hamilton Standard as part of the A3H prototype spacesuit. The label reads: "Item: Apollo Space Suit Thermal Garment Pants; Ident: AT-3H-023; Model" SPD-804-1; Size: Medium; Serial: 003; Date: 3-18-64; Contract No.: E-92003SS". This was the 3rd design iteration made early in the development of the Apollo suit. ILC remanufactured the design into the fourth iteration under a Hamilton Standard contract that was for a new cover garment. The 3rd design then became excess at that point. Hamilton Standard redesigned two more garments but used BF Goodrich as manufacturer instead of ILC. ILC got a direct contract with NASA for the A3L, A4L and A5L space suits. The ILC A5L competed against the Hamilton Standard/David Clark design and won the 1965 competition to make the final generation Apollo space suits. The A6A and A7L suits subsequently evolved. This rare prototype garment is complete with black suspenders, thermal insulation, Velcro patches on the sides and elastic ankles. It is an important garment in the evolution of the Apollo space suit and is in excellent overall condition. Possibly unique today.
