White, R. Byron & Marjorie White. A COMPREHENSIVE FINDING LIST OF CHINESE CASH. T'ANG TO REPUBLIC. K'AI YUAN TO MIN KUO, 618 AD TO 1912 AD. TOGETHER WITH LOCKHART'S LISTING OF THE CHINESE DYNASTIES. BAI Publications, Sheldonville. 1976. 4to. NP pages. Original white card covers. Tables with symbols. Fine. This book is intended to facilitate the procedure of quick identification and assignment of a reference number to Chinese Cash coins. The currently available references have been compared and the results shown in the charts. The Nien-hao list has been made as complete as possible even though none of the usual references picture the coin. The intent has been to list all Chinese and only Chinese cash from the K'ai Yuans of T'ang to the Republic. Included are both those belonging and not belonging to the regular dynastic line; where there is a question of origin it is noted. A number of pieces are listed with reference only by Smith and Coole. If such a piece is at hand, it must be rare. The listings from Coole must be followed for more complete identification. Of the references given, Smith will be published about. the same time as this book. The Glover collection by Lockhart is not available but many old collections are listed by Glover numbers. The procedure is simple: find the top character of the coin in either the Alphabetical or Character Index, refer to the given number in the charts and there find the second character of the Nien-hao. The dynasty and date given are for the first listed coin of that Nien-hao in that book. The last pages of this book are a reprint of the Chinese Dynasty tables from Volume III of the 'Currency of the Farther East' by J.H. Stewart Lockhart. The listings of the dynasties not belonging to the regular line are very difficult to find. There are other listings that do not agree. with these but the differences are usually in minor detail of a few years in the date of accession or date of adoption of a Nien-hao. There are, of course, other Chinese cash-like pieces not covered by these listings, the commemorative pieces. palace coins and amulets. Lot weight: 0 lbs 7oz. Subject(s): Chinese Coinage.
