Wheellock Rifle with Extensive Engraving and Highly Detailed Bone Inlaid Stock
Produced with a fixed blade front sight and an empty rear dovetail, with a Damascus twist pattern to the barrel and silver inlaid scrollwork, floral designs and accent bands at the breech and muzzle. The hammer is covered with scroll designs and images of serpents, floral decoration on the hammer spring cover, interwoven scroll patterns on the wheel cover and a scene of Themis, Greek goddess of divine law, wielding the sword and scales while a serpent looms overhead. Equipped with a sliding pan cover, raised fence, single trigger and a finger rest trigger guard. Smooth stock, with a horn tipped ramrod and pipes with matching scrimshaw, extensive scroll and floral bone inlays on the underside, geometric patterns and busts on the comb, flowers and grotesque animals opposite the lock, a patch box on the underside and an inlaid scene on each cheekpiece surrounded by scroll and floral designs, showing a king attended by three servants on the left side, and Hermes and Poseidon on the right. Unsure whether this is of 19th Century assembly, so bid accordingly.

Condition: Good, with a bright gray patina on the barrel, showing a strong twist pattern. Mild pitting is visible overall, along with some minor handling marks. Stock is good, with pressure dents and a pin absent from the forearm. Engraving detail is superb, and the inlays are fine in detail.
