SN: 42064 'Best Quality' Factory cased detachable barrel bolt action sporting rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield, manufactured in London, England circa 1929. Features a blued finish, take-down 24" barrel with sighting rib, raised bead top blade front sight with pivoting hood & flip-up glooming sight, express rear sight with one standing & four folding leaves marked for 100, 200, 300, 400 & 500 yards, Carl Zeiss Zielklein 2 1/4x scope with single latch Griffin & Howe quick detach side mount, modified standard length large ring mauser action with thumb cut, blued bolt with turned down handle, three-position safety, smooth double set triggers, internal box magazine with polished follower & lever release hinged floorplate, multi-point hand checkered select walnut forend with horn tip and semi-pistol grip shoulder stock with drop points, case hardened trapdoor grip cap containing a spare front sight, beaded right handed cheekpiece, inlayed oval escutcheon engraved "J.M.D.", installed sling eye, smooth steel trapdoor buttplate & 14 1/2" LOP. The barrel is engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co. LONDON." & "W.R. DETACHABLE BARREL." and the receiver ring is marked "42064/ FOR .30/06 CARTRIDGE". Includes a factory leather wrapped locking trunk case with label and partitioned interior lined in green felt. Case contains a horn handled screw driver, nickel plated oiler bottle, four piece cleaning rod, brass jag and cleaning brushes. Also includes correspondence from Holland & Holland and from Jim Wilkinson to the seller of the rifle upon his purchase. Rifle retains approximately 80% of its original blued finish showing thinning, high point edge wear, and some bright scratches on the receiver ring from dismounting the scope. Action is very smooth, the bore is excellent, optics are sharp with a post style reticle with intersecting crosshair, markings are clear, and the glossy wood stocks are near fine with minor blemishes.
