American frontiersman and soldier (1755–1836) who served in the Revolution, Northwest Indian War, and War of 1812, and once saved the life of Daniel Boone. Manuscript DS, signed “Simon Kenton,” one page, 7.25 x 11.75, April 22, 1805. A financial document concerning a loan. In part: “Know, all Men by these presents that we Simon Kenton, William Moore & Joseph C. Vance of Champaign County and state of Ohio are firmly bound to the Treasurer of the state of Ohio in the just and full sum of one thousand Dollars.” Signed at the conclusion by Kenton, Moore, and Vance. Double-matted with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 17 x 17. In very good condition, with separations to intersecting folds repaired on the reverse, and light toning and soiling.
