Western Racing. Unique memento of the h
Western Racing. Unique memento of the historic 1914 Western desert auto races: Attractive pictorial invoice, Feb. 13, 1914, Oilzum's "Pacific Coast Agent" billing the home office "For Los Angeles to Sacramento Race, 100.00." Between 1912-14, Oilzum engaged in massive promotional activities in the desert races, fierce contests pitting Fiat, Locomobile, Mercer, and Stutz against other big-horsepower cars. Samuel Wigney, Los Angeles, Agent for Oilzum manufacturer White & Bagley Co., Worcester, Mass. 7 -1/4 x 8 -1/4 oblong, taxi-yellow Oilzum oval logo, illustration of Oilzum Carbonless Gas Engine Cylinder Oil. Glued at lower portion by Bagley to an office ledger page, some wrinkling, blank 1 -1/2 " section at lower left lacking, else clean and good. With letter of provenance attesting that this came directly from Mr. Bagley's office; for decades, Oilzum's promotion of these races was a source of pride.
