Included in this lot we have this rare original Western Knife & Hatchet Removable Handle Set with sheath dating to circa 1930-1932. The knife and hatchet are both a rare double tang mechanism which locks into the celluloid mother of pearl and nickel handle. Both the knife and hatchet are stamped “Western Boulder Colo.” with a patent or Pat. No. 967-479. The set was only made for a few years with this grip material and patent date making it very rare. The set is complete and comes with the tooled basket weave leather sheath, knife blade, hatchet and handle. The mechanism works wonderfully and allows the user to quickly interchange the excellent hunting knife and camp axe with ease. These combination sets are very rare. This piece measures 10 3/4" long as an axe, 9 1/4" long as a knife, and the scabbard measures 10" long.
