White Opalescent Fern cruet with original stopper made by West Virginia Glass in 1894. Many glass companies made this pattern including Hobbs Glass in 1898, then Beaumont Glass Co. possibly from the old Hobbs molds, Northwood Glass made the pattern in 1902, Model Flint Glass in 1900 and West Virginia Glass in 1894. Heacock in "Oil Cruets from A to Z" contributes the cruet to West Virginia Glass based on the shape of the syrup and sugar shaker.
The cruet is 7 inches tall including the stopper. It is 5 inches tall without stopper. The opalescence on the fern pattern is very even and crisp. The triangular top is in excellent condition as is the stopper. The bottom has a polished pontil mark. The only flaw is a partial heat check through the top fold over part of the handle. It is approximately 1/2 inch long starting on the left side and ending before the right side of the handle. It can barely be felt with the fingernail on the left side and stops about 1/4 inch before the end of the handle on the right side. The body of the cruet is unaffected. I have tried to capture this in the photos. Price is reflective of condition.
