This sparkling amethyst handblown ruffled vase has been made by one of the fine West Virginia glassmakers--although it is unmarked, it may well be Viking or Hamon due to its color and texture. The segmented vase shape and textured glass indicate that it is stretched glass.

It is a beguiling piece--not only does the gorgeous amethyst color immediately arrest your gaze, the lovely shape takes over from there. The ruffle undulates deeply at the top that is followed by the overall flow of the vase.

This vase is 7 1/2 to 8 inches high, depending on where within the ruffle you measure, with a 3 1/2-inch wide bowl and a 2 3/8-inch base. It is 2 3/4 inches across the top. The neck as it expands with the ruffle is 1 1/2 to 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 inches: its overall shape is nearly flowerlike and reminiscent of a lily. The neck shows the stretching of the glass as well does the bowl, which also is "swirled."

The vase has what might be called a "foot" or extended base of 1/4 inches. The base of the vase has an unpolished pontil.

Pictures here show the vase in both flash and non-flash shots.

The vase is circa 1960s-1970s and is in near mint condition!

This vase will make a wonderful item for a glass collection!
