Werndl Breech Loading Military Pattern Rifle with Antwerp Merchant Marks
Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with a bayonet lug on the right side near the muzzle, "St69" and "Ga" on top of the barrel and a set of Liege proofs on the left side of the chamber and breech. The top of the breech is marked "WERNDL", with additional proofs on the rotating breechblock and "868" on the lock plate. Smooth straight wrist stock, with a brown leather sling, "L. VAN CAUWENBERGHE/ ANVERS" on the right side of the buttstock, "15/ 26/ 18" on the underside and "J.PIRE & Cle/ ANVERS" on the left. The Belgian city of Antwerp has also gone by the names of Antwerpen and Anvers, depending on who was possessing it at the time.
