Title is Her Sister's Song. 28" by 30" framed. Wen Xin Zhang (Born 1928) is active/lives in New Mexico, Colorado / China. Wen Xin Zhang is known for Figure-genre, landscape, and portrait painting. Though he immigrated to the United States in 1987, Zhang Wen Xin still feels connected to his homeland and he travels there every year. Zhang uses his art to promote a better understanding between his adopted home and his birthplace. Zhang's paintings capture everyday people doing ordinary tasks and hopes to show that there is much we share in our common lives. While just a child, Zhang lost his mother and moved to live with his grandparents. He later fled to Manchuria when the Japanese invaded Tianjin. In 1959 he earned a degree in oil painting from North China University. he found it difficult to work as an artist and obtained a partial scholarship to study physics at Beijing University. On the side he painted portraits of Lenin, Stalin and Mao. He later worked in the Beijing Municipality Peoples' Fine Art Studio where he worked as a resident artist under the Chinese Cultural Bureau. He collaborated with other artists to create the World War II Martyrs Tomb and the Heroes Monument in Tiananmen Square. In 1987 Zhang moved to the United States where he could paint and freely express himself. He settled in Casper, Wyoming and an early show at the Nicolaysen Museum gave him the contacts he needed. Painter James Bama among others helped him and encouraged his move to Denver, Colorado. In Denver he painted portraits and stage sets. He slowly gained notice in western art circles. Zhang now finds his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he has earned a reputation as a master colorist.
